Growing up in Singapore, I was very fortunate to have travelled extensively throughout the region to countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Australia. Although my greatest reporting interest revolves around sports, I am most struck by the cultural diversity and unique issues that are specific to these areas. For example, I would love to explore social issues such as the high unemployment rates for youths in rural Thailand, or the repressed fight by Singaporeans to free up its restricted press. In the future, I plan to observe such a collision of culture and human rights by using sports as a lens through which more profound issues can be explored. On the whole, I prefer to profile characters and use them as a pivot for analysing bigger issues, as I did with my most recent story, where I examined the challenges on youth soccer development in NYC.
