Emerging Manager Programs (EMPs) are intended to offer mandates to small and diverse managers. However, they make up a small slice of institutional investors’ total AUM. In an op-ed, Jim Park (AAAIM CEO) states, “It is deeply troubling that the number of AAPI-owned firms in EMPs is not nearly representative of the AAPI population [and]… AAPI-owned firms are getting a minuscule bite of an already small slice of pie.” The issue of inclusion within these programs for AAPIs has been largely overlooked due to the “model minority” stereotype and the misperception that AAPIs are overrepresented in the investment industry. To support early stage AAPI-owned funds, AAAIM is officially launching an AAAIM Emerging Managers Network to create a forum for our member institutions to support each other and to create opportunities for learning and training. In this episode of AAAIM High Live, Jim Park interviews founding member of our Emerging Managers network, Vijay Mehta (Arkview Capital https://www.arkviewcapital.com) to discuss their experience and challenges of fundraising as an Emerging Manager.
