Request a demoAfter graduating with degrees in Filmmaking and Science Communication, I have progressed through the broadcast television ranks to work across a variety of genres, in a variety of roles. From working as a director on shows for National Geographic and Discovery to directing, shooting and editing shows for South Pacific Pictures, Greenstone TV and Al Jazeera, the work has been incredibly varied. A decade ago I decided to take editing more seriously, as it not only gave me more work opportunities, but it made me a better shooter. There is nothing like trying to edit the footage you have shot. Five years ago, I shot and directed a 10-part observational series for Discovery about people working on the frontline of Borneo's conservation. For four months I travelled to some of the most amazing places, got up close and personal with species and told stories about the good people trying to protect the environment. Since then, I have worked in China, Vietnam, Thailand and the Yukon on Canada. I love being on location, capturing life as it happens and tackling any challenging story scenarios. I am highly motivated and love to test the boundaries of what can be achieved, no matter what the budget or supposed limitations.

For six months, I was embedded with the alpine cliff rescue teams in both Mt Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks filming their search and rescue work. Transported by helicopter to some of the most amazing parts of New Zealand, it was an amazing experience in some of the grittiest conditions. When filming wrapped I directed the edit on 8 x 30 minute episodes for TVNZ.

In 2014, I travelled to Sichuan in China three times to direct and shoot a documentary about Giant Pandas. Working with a couple of Chinese colleagues, we managed to get enough footage to make 1 x 2hr show and 6 x 30 minute episodes.

In 1945, wine was made in Europe from grapes harvested during WW11, by the children of families beset by violence and famine...it is recognised as a great vintage. 70-odd years away and on the other side of the world, grapes are once again harvested under extra-ordinary circumstances. As the fruit lazily ripened in an unusually cold summer and autumn, a global pandemic reached the shores of NZ. Would the fruit, culminating in a year's worth of careful viticulture, be left to rot on the vines...or would the 2020 vintage be something that we'll be looking back on in year's to come as something quite special?

Since 2011-12, I have been involved as a director-cameraman working on seasons 2 & 3 of Highway Cops. Embedded with the rural police force based in and around Central Otago, the work involves filming the police in their daily work looking for stories that will make entertaining and educating viewing in a reality television format.
Based in Manila for four months between September 2013 and January 2014, I worked as an editor and cameraman on a documentary for Al Jazeera about the lives of the urban poor. Set in the notorious squatter communities of The Tondo, the show is a gritty observational expose on life at the extreme margin of society. Once filming was wrapped, I worked for a further four months on the edit.
A recent summary of work completed for major broadcasters over the last decade. From the remote back-blocks of China through the jungles of Borneo and the slums of Manila...its been quite a ride.
