Request QuoteI am a journalist and filmmaker based in London. I direct and produce documentaries on themes such as race, gentrification and music. I recently directed and produced a documentary for Chelsea FC about being a Black Chelsea fan. It was described as “polished piece of work” by The Athletic and has garnered over 35,000 views. I also write articles on culture for publications such as VICE, Mixmag and GRM Daily. In 2020, I wrote an article for VICE about the effect the pandemic had on politicising me. The article enabled me to find more work in the space, interviewing artists such as BAFTA award winning rapper and presenter, Big Zuu.
Hackney is a documentary about the changes that have taken place in the borough over the last twenty years. Told through the voice of Clapton rapper, Frenzy, it explores themes such as gentrification, violence and creativity. It featured in the Hackney Gazette’s community report and has garnered over 4,000 YouTube views.
University Challenge: Decolonising the Curriculum is a documentary which answers the question: “How far should universities decolonise their curricula?” The film highlights the arguments for and against through interviews with cultural commentators and university lecturers.
Blue is the Colour is a documentary directed by Xaymaca Awoyungbo about what it means to be Black and a Chelsea fan. The film uses Chelsea as the focal point through which to explore the music, politics and culture of Britain from the 1960s to the present day.
