Giants of the Himalayas
Produced by Pangea Films for National Geographic India, Giants of the Himalayas is a documentary about a team of scientists, filmmakers, photographers, and conservationists, braving extreme temperatures in the second coldest inhabited place in the world – Drass, all to document the elusive, unknown, and rapidly dwindling Himalayan brown bear. From waiting in knee deep snow at temperatures plummeting to -25 degreesCelsius, to scaling high altitude mountain faces, this film is about the challenges the team face to get evidence of a species the world knows so little about. From learning about the treacherous bear – man conflict in the area, to harsh realities about climate change in the mountains, the team travel the Trans-Himalayas from border to border, to identify the conservation importance and get filmic documentation of this magnificent species. After the release of this documentary, Pangea Films aims to continue their efforts to conserve the Himalayan Brown bear, by working towards making all Himalayan brown bear habitats protected areas.
