About
I’m a freelance journalist covering social issues, including inequality, criminal justice, urban policy, and immigration. My writing has appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The New Republic, The Nation, and The New York Times, among other publications.
I am a contributing reporter for the Food & Environment Reporting Network, where I cover food security and access, government benefits programs, and the social safety net.
Until November 2019, I was based in Paris, France, where I reported on topics including immigration policy, religion and identity, and women’s rights. I was a 2017-2019 recipient of the Institute of Current World Affairs writing fellowship, which supported a two-year research project on secularism and national identity in France.
I have also received reporting grants from the Social Science Research Council (Abe Fellowship for Journalists), the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, and Save the Children.
