After Eight Decades, Family Locates Grave of WW2 Soldier
Sepoy Feroz Din, a soldier from Pakistani-administered Kashmir, was killed in World War II while fighting for the British Indian Army in Hong Kong. His family was unable to locate his grave for decades, but his nephew Saifullah eventually found it in Sai Wan Cemetery. Saifullah used his online research skills to identify the fronts where Indian forces fought for Britain and whose geography matched the description of mountains on one side and the sea on the other. He then narrowed down his search to the Fifth Battalion of the Seventh Rajput Regiment, which was recruited from Poonch district in Kashmir. Finally, he found Sepoy Feroz Din's name in the records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Sepoy Feroz Din's grave is among the 444 unknown graves in Sai Wan Cemetery, but his name is prominently inscribed on the soldiers' monument within the cemetery.
