Derek is a freelance video producer based out of Long Beach, CA. His creative journey began in the US Navy as the command photographer for USS Howard (DDG 83) a guided-missile destroyer. While onboard he engaged in documenting such activities as hunting submarines, foreign government training exercises, and volunteer work in underprivileged communities abroad. Beginning in 2017 he began his freelance career back stateside working with local wineries and small businesses in the bay area while completing his bachelor's degree in Radio, TV, and Film from San Jose State University. While in college he won awards for Best Cinematography and Scriptwriting for films he produced for college film festivals. His freelance career started to pick up speed in 2018 when he signed with Silicon Valley Clean Energy as their content creator, from 2020-2021 they completed a first of its kind, 5-hour training course on home electrification, serving as a tool to educate contractors and homeowners about living the all-electric lifestyle. Derek has been involved with productions with some of the top tech companies in the bay area including LinkedIn, Intuit, PayPal, and Apple.
