Request QuoteBorn in Bogotá - Colombia, in 1979, Silvia Lorenzini is an Italian-Colombian Film Director and Producer. At the end of 2016, she completed her first feature film, My Way or the Highway an intimate documentary that revolves around a motorcycle trip with her father across South America. As a freelancer, she works on brand videos, fashion videos, and documentaries. She lives between Santa Marta and Bogotá - Colombia, after spending 15 years studying and working in Europe (Genoa, Madrid, London, and Barcelona). Silvia studied filmmaking at the School of Cinema of Genova SDAC, Italy (1999–2001) and graduated in film direction at the School of Arts and Performances TAI of Madrid, Spain (2001–2005). Based in London in the mid 2000’s, she produced music videos and visuals for DJ sets for Aurélien Rivière aka Doubting Thomas, Clorinde, Pablo Tarno, Juanpablo of Frigio Records, among others. Attracted to collage making, she dug into digital art and set up her first exhibition in East London in 2008. Later on, she worked in Barcelona as an Executive Producer for The Cannonball, an advertisement house company. There, she produced several commercial ads for brands such as: Timotei, Seguros Mapfre, La Caixa, Ikea, Seat, Nokia, and Movistar. In 2009, she directed The Bullet Studio, an alternative space for creating new audiovisual proposals for the advertisement world through the art and documentaries. Produced campaigns served firms such as: LG, MTV, Generalitat de Catalunya, and Sony. She has directed fashion films and videos for web contents and developed several of them using animation techniques. Some of her clients included Penguin Random House, Converse, Idartes, Lina Hernández Joyas, and Electromecanismos, among others. Her video art Tropical X was screened at the International Film Festival of the Environment (FIFE) in Paris, in 2012, and at the Neukölln 48 Hours Festival in Berlin in the same year. The Amphibian Topolino was presented in festivals such as Dogville, Neukölln 48 Hours Festivaland the International Video Art Festival in Barcelona, among others. In 2013, Silvia returned to Colombia and worked as an Executive Producer for Colombo Films, a firm producing ads, web series, and other audiovisual content. She was responsible for campaigns such us: Fondo de Prevención Vial, Ford Fiesta, Klim, Zenú, Claro HD, Ramo, and Special Olympics. She produced the animated film Virus Tropical, based on the graphic novel by Powerpaola and directed by Santiago Caicedo, which won the Film Development Fund of Colombia in 2013. In 2014 her documentary project My Way or the Highway won the production prize of the Film Development Fund of Colombia and the co-production with Señal Colombia, a national TV channel. Moreover, in 2015 the project participated in the co-production forum at WEMW in Trieste, Italy and at DocLab Guadalajara where it won the color correction award granted by Cinecolor México. Silvia currently works as a Director and Producer. She has produced several video clips for the popular Colombian music band Bomba Estéreo, like Fiesta and Qué Bonito and the Red Bull’s last documentary Searching for Sound: Simón Mejia the return to San Basilio , co-directed a fashion film for Franca, a handcrafted bags and accessories company and directed the last brand’s film of the perfume Ilse Cherie of La Forêt. Silvia is working on her new fiction film Tropicalia, a surreal underwater story taking place in Santa Marta. She also teaches Family Documentary Telling at the public University of Magdalena, Santa Marta.

A young woman on her surfboard tries to overcome waves again and again. Fear and the rough seas pull her towards the land and sank her in the deep. In the dark of the water, she can see herself from below, restore her clarity, and exit to the surface to a new landscape, which might only be from her imagination.
Almost ten years ago, Simón Mejía built a studio in the region – a corner of northern Colombia where African slaves once escaped to and which has had a massive impact on the modern-day sound of Colombia. Now he's back to explore the studio's legacy and contemporary music scenes and to record the unique sounds in this community.
