Pakistan Independence day began with 21 gun salute across the country. special programs are being held in every city, but this year what is notable is that Pakistan is celebrating the independence day in solidarity with the Kashmiri people. National & Kashmiri flags have been raised all across the roads of the federal capital. The government has also introduced a special logo for Independence Day which has been created to express solidarity with people of Indian occupied Kashmir, representing sacrifices rendered during the struggle for freedom by the Kashmiris. Vendors have set up stalls of national flags, banners, badges and pictures of national heroes. Different organisations are arranging seminars, sports events, as well as national song and speech competitions. All national buildings and monuments have been decorated. The provincial governments as well as educational institutions and art councils throughout the country have also planned a series of events in connection with Independence Day. Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit Muzaffarabad today, as part of the government's decision to observe Independence Day this year in solidarity with Kashmiris. He will address the Azad Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi celebrated the Eid day in Kashmir as a show of support to the Kashmiri people. The decision to dedicate Independence Day to the Kashmiris and their "just struggle for their right of self-determination" was made during a National Security Committee meeting, two days after Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir was stripped of its autonomous status by the indian government. It has also been decided that August 15, which is India's day of independence, will be observed as Black Day in protest against the ongoing Indian atrocities, human rights violations and imposition of curfew in the Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
