Jonathan Jose Z. Olarte is a freelance filmmaker, visual artist, and human rights activist born and raised in Metro Manila, Philippines. He is currently pursuing further studies at the University of the Philippines, Diliman for Fine Arts. He studied cinematography at the International Academy of Film and Television, and apprenticed under visual artist and cinematographer Napoleon Jamir III.
He has shot for several international documentaries such as the Human Rights Watch, BBC Reel, Zinc, TRT World, Rappler, VICE NEWS, and award-winning project of Dutch public broadcasting cooperation VPRO: Metropolis, and several episodes for “180 Seconds” of The Goethe Institute.
As of today, Jose has been focusing on the art of moving images and video installations. In his recent works has been dabbling in between white cubes and black boxes.
