Request QuoteMy name is Nick Loomis and I have been based in West Africa for more than a decade. I spent the five of those years as a staffer with the BBC but now I have returned to freelancing. As a video journalist, my subject matter is most often dictated by whether or not it lends itself to the medium (not everything is a video story). That criterion satisfied, I enjoy doing stories related to the environment, economic development, social (in)justice and religion.
With the help of the local population, Haidar el Ali has led a program that has planted 152 million mangrove buds in the Casamance Delta of southern Senegal over the past decade. The reforestation project has become one of the largest of its kind in the world.
The long-awaited trial into the murder of former Burkina Faso president, Thomas Sankara, has begun in the capital, Ouagadougou. He was killed in a coup in 1987. He was known for his integrity and modest lifestyle. Two of his brothers, Paul and Valentin Sankara, share some memories they have of the Burkinabé revolutionary.
