My name is Nick Loomis and I have been based in West Africa for more than a decade. I spent the five of those years as a staffer with the BBC but now I have returned to freelancing. As a video journalist, my subject matter is most often dictated by whether or not it lends itself to the medium (not everything is a video story). That criterion satisfied, I enjoy doing stories related to the environment, economic development, social (in)justice and religion.

Remembering our brother, Thomas Sankara
The long-awaited trial into the murder of former Burkina Faso president, Thomas Sankara, has begun in the capital, Ouagadougou. He was killed in a coup in 1987. He was known for his integrity and modest lifestyle. Two of his brothers, Paul and Valentin Sankara, share some memories they have of the Burkinabé revolutionary.
