He is a graduate student at Columbia Journalism School and at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Reporting. Previously, he worked at a university in Saudi Arabia. He studied political science and Islamic studies in Freiburg, Germany and in Cairo, Egypt. Jan Hendrik Hinzel has also held various internships and done freelance work for German media (TV, online, and print). Together with two friends, he founded www.soukmagazine.de, an online magazine about the Middle-East. Jan Hendrik Hinzel reported from several countries for German Media. His reporting trips brought him to Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Bahrain, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and to Saudi Arabia.
