He spent the past few years working as a freelance photojournalist in Latin America looking at environmental issues and labor rights in a gold mining community in the Peruvian Andes; the effects of cartel violence on communities in Chihuahua and Sinaloa, Mexico; and the cultural renaissance in multi-ethnic São Paulo, Brazil. Recently, Walker has been documenting the role of public libraries in refugee communities in Germany, the transformation of synagogues into public libraries in post-Holocaust Poland, and the programs and support for internally displaced people and veterans in public libraries in Eastern Ukraine. He currently is working as a producer for CBS News.

Using a small catamaran with limited food, water and gas, 25 African migrants sail for 33 days across the Atlantic from West Africa to Brazil in search of a better life.
