1 reviewAfter almost two years reporting in Caracas, Venezuela for print media, I've recently began collaborating with my colleague, Jesus Olarte, to produce video for an English speaking audience. I've written for and contributed to a variety of publications -- including The Miami Herald, The New York Times and The Christians Science Monitor -- about the recent election cycle, death of Hugo Chávez and its aftermath. I'm keen to use my reporting experience to cover compelling stories and narratives as Venezuelans transition into a country without Chávez. I'm particularly interested in how citizens and local business cope with the country's stumbling economy, individual activism and human rights as well as the cult still surrounding Chávez.

During the Catholic holiday of Corpus Christi, hundreds of Venezuelans dress up in neon-colored fabric, mesh veils and paper-mache devil masks to practice a ritual that represents the struggle between good and evil. Pablo Izaguirre, who has participated for more than 60 years, now leads the ceremony as the “Elder Devil”.
