L’architecte japonais Tadao Ando a été choisi par François Pinault pour concevoir la conversion du bâtiment de la Bourse de Commerce en musée. Créée par Tadao Ando en 1969 à Osaka, Tadao Ando Architect & Associates (TAAA) est l’une des plus importantes agences d’architecture au monde. Grâce à son expertise et une organisation flexible, TAAA a conduit de nombreux projets, de petites et grandes échelles, conjuguant à chaque fois fonctionnalité du lieu et geste architectural. Au cours des vingt-cinq dernières années, elle a été à l’origine de nombreuses réalisations d’envergure dont le Musée d’Art Moderne de Fort Worth, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts aux États-Unis, la Fondation Langen en Allemagne, Benesse House à Naoshima au Japon, et le Centre de recherche Benetton Communication à Trévise en Italie... Les réalisations de Tadao Ando ont été saluées par de prestigieuses distinctions : Prix Pritzker d’architecture, la Royal Medal RIBA Or, la Médaille d’or de l’Académie d’architecture, la Médaille d’or de l’American Institute of Architects, la Médaille d’or de l’Union Internationale des Architectes et le Praemium Impérial du Japon en 1996. Tadao Ando a collaboré avec François Pinault sur plusieurs projets depuis 2000. L’agence a remarquablement assuré la rénovation et la préservation de Palazzo Grassi, Punta della Dogana et du Teatrino à Venise.
