I am a Daytime Emmy nominated producer and filmmaker currently based in Karachi, Pakistan. My work focuses on the exploration of the human condition through intricacies of transference and tools of visual storytelling. I hold a BSc in Media Studies and an M.A in Digital Film Production from the University of Bedfordshire. I have had diverse experiences in the field while writing, producing and directing documentary films, commercials, PSAs and short films for local and international clients. I have made films for Pepsi, British Council, Coca Cola, Oxfam, Within, FIFA, PMI, YouTube Originals, Refinery29, Getz Pharma and Askari Bank among many others. My work has been featured at prestigious film festivals like the NYFF, TiFF and nominated at the 48th Daytime Emmy awards. I enjoy my work because it allows me to connect with people from all over the world on a personal level and that connection drives me to tell their stories responsibly. My experiences of producing and directing films with very small crews in Europe, Africa and Asia have allowed me to truly understand and appreciate the universality of film language and its various cultural nuances. As a writer, producer and director, it is my responsibility to supervise and ensure the quality of all aspects of production, including script & story development, stylistic language, cinematic consistency, post-production and everything in between. This has allowed me to immerse myself in each aspect of the filmmaking process and helped me understand the medium better. Apart from my work, I am also interested in linguistics, psychoanalysis, theology, history and anthropology, all of which heavily influences how I approach each story. I am fluent in English, Urdu, Pashto and Punjabi and I am always on the lookout for authentic cultural interactions. I dabble in satirical writing and fiction as well. My work has been published in the nationally circulated English Daily "Dawn" and various online publications. I also pride myself as somewhat of a connoisseur of horror, alternative and international cinema. On weekends, I could usually be found screening films for my friends in my little home theatre or playing board games.

Fighting racism and patriarchy in Brazil: Can women’s movements in Brazil fight against nationalism, racism, and patriarchy to save women’s health and lives? Brazilian law permits abortion only in cases of rape and danger to the woman’s life. Sexual and reproductive rights are severely limited, and there are deep racial prejudices against Black Brazilians. Civil society is also under threat, and activists in Brazil remain on high alert after the murder of prominent Black Brazilian activist Marielle Franco in March 2018. In Fundamental Brazil Episode, “Defenders of Justice,” we meet Lucia Xavier, who is part of a movement of powerful women activists who are reframing reproductive rights as an issue of gender rights and racial justice, as she and others work to address security threats against activists fighting for reproductive rights. We also meet Daniele Duarte, an Afro-Brazilian lesbian activist who participates in protests and marches against the rise of the extremist president Jair Bolsonaro. Lucia, Daniele, and others are part of a vibrant and intersectional feminist movement in Brazil, mobilizing what some are calling a “Feminist Spring” in Brazil as the Supreme Court considers decriminalizing abortion.
