Taliban militants who recently took control of Afghanistan shut the crossing on October 5, 2021, a move that suspended cross-border trading and has cost thousands of people their jobs. A Taliban official said the border would remain closed until Islamabad relaxes rules and eases restrictions imposed on Afghan nationals wanting to enter Pakistan.
