Activist who had his brother and sister-in-law murdered fights for the reforestation of native forest in the Amazon
Claudelice da Silva is a forestry activist and coordinates the Praia-Alta Piranheira Settlement Project, which protects the remnants of forest that exist in the Marabá region, in southeastern Pará. In 2011, the activist had her brother and sister-in-law murdered in an ambush in gunmen. The couple denounced illegal logging in the region. Today, Claudelice works at Instituto Zé Claudio e Maria, which reforests the settlement area with native forest.
