Chile Year Zero. Footages, Sounds, Photographs and Interviews From Ground Zero of the Social Uprising

On October 18, 2019 an increase in 30 pesos (USD0.039) in the subway fare triggered the biggest protest in Chile since the end of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship in 1990. What it's called The Revolution of the 30 pesos demands a new Constitution (the current Constitution was approved during the dictatorship through a fraudulent plebiscite in 1980), reforms to the economic system, the end of the privatized retirement system, etc. Since the beginning of the national protests thousands of people meet daily in Dignity Square in Santiago, the ground-zero of the social uprising, a traditional square officially named Plaza Italia or Plaza Baquedano, renamed Plaza de la Dignidad, Dignity Square, by the protesters. Anarchy, art, anger, grief, solidarity and politic reigns in the square during the day together with violent clashes with the police. This work is a recount of 17 days of independent coverage at Dignity Square with a tape recorder, a digital video camera and a DSLR film camera. The video is divided in five parts, with a timeline as intro and with an explanation of terminology at the end: 1: The Front Line; 2: Wounded and Repressed; 3: Photographs and Interviews; 4: Mourning (some of the footages in this section were made in Plaza Ñuñoa) ; 5: Dignity Square
