I'm a Somali-Canadian journalist based out of Toronto with an interest in refugee stories, human rights, Indigenous people, and international politics with a focus on East Africa and the Middle East. I've had experience as a producer and a reporter in both print and broadcast as well as current affairs and documentaries. I began my career with investigative stories, however I choose to be a journalist so that I can share the stories of underprivileged populations. I think that media often creates a dichotomy with "the West" and the rest of the world. What i love about the power of storytelling is the opportunity to show the similarities across cultures and build compassion and understanding.
