Request QuoteThe Mexico-Dominican duo of Laura Amelia Guzmán (Dominican Republic, 1980) and Israel Cárdenas (Mexico, 1980) has directed, written, produced, and photographed several feature films to date. Among them figure COCHOCHI (2007) and JEAN GENTIL (2010), both celebrating their world premieres in the Exhibition of Cinematographic Art of the Venice Biennale; and their documentary CARMITA (2013), having its own at FICUNAM. Their most recent film, SAND DOLLARS (2014), starring Geraldine Chaplin, has been internationally renowned, as well as been distributed in French, German, Brazilian, Mexican, Argentinian, and U.S. cinemas. Presently, they work on feature film SAMBÁ (in post-production) and docu-fiction NOELI OVERSEAS, as well as the development of their next feature REINADO DE BELLEZA / BEAUTY KINGDOM, to be filmed in the Dominican Republic in 2017. As of June 2016, they both figure among the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Jean Gentil narrates the struggles - both material and philosophical - of an educated, deeply religious Haitian immigrant as he travels throughout the Dominican Republic, in search of work as well as a deeper meaning. Centering on the remarkable figure of Jean Remy Genty, playing a role closely modeled on his own life, the film traces his path from the city of Santo Domingo into the countryside.
