His work is published in The New York Times, Stern, Newsweek, Time Magazine, Vanity Fair, Bloomberg Businessweek and The New York Times Magazine. Shawn lived in the Middle East for more than a decade covering war in Iraq, revolutions in Egypt and Libya, and the growing influence of hardline Islam across the Arab world. He has worked throughout the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe on stories. He is the recipient of the 2016 Dorothea Lange Fellowship and has won several awards including Magazine Portrait & Personality in the Best of Photojournalism competition for his work in Afghanistan. Shawn studied documentary filmmaking at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. His first documentary film "After the Revolution" will premiere this year.
