Thailand has one of the most prevalent trans communities in Asia, but are they truly accepted in their country? On this special episode of Can Ask Meh, we speak to three transwomen in Thailand and find out how they struggled to be accepted by their families and the Thai society, but also what being a woman means to them.
In South East Asian mythology the Kinnari is the traditional symbol of feminine beauty and grace. What does it mean to be a modern day Kinnari? Inspired by my up-bringing as a Thai-American woman this original series was created and premiered on COCONUTS TV. I provided the opening credits edit, subtitle translator, as well as field producer and creative director.
Celebrating authenticity and challenging conventional beauty standards I wanted to highlight everyday individuals around my neighborhood of Bang Sue, Bangkok, Thailand. I collaborated with stylist Kasaya Katia Nacharoen and writer Mika Apichatsakol to bring a more rounded position to the project.
