About

Phil Buck has successfully led several expeditions throughout his twenty-nine year career as an professional adventurer. In 2000 he led an international crew of eight aboard an ancient style reed ship 2,500 miles from Arica, Chile to Easter Island. This ship was named Viracocha I and became the first primitive raft to reach Easter Island in modern times. The Viracocha II was built in 2002 and made its voyage from Viña del Mar, Chile to Easter Island in 2003. His past expeditions include crossing the entire North American continent by canoe following the route of Lewis and Clark, climbing Andean peaks in search of lost Inca artifacts and becoming the first person to climb the highest mountain in all 23 nations of North, Central and South America. As part of his 23 peaks challenge, he overcame a myriad of challenges including avalanches, quicksand, poisonous snakes, snipers, land mines, hostile natives and civil war. Phil is a noted videographer, photographer, lecturer, web-caster and mountain and trekking guide. He has worked for NBC, ABC and South American television stations as cameraman and was the director of photography or cameraman of four documentaries about the first two Viracocha reed raft voyages including a six part series featuring those expeditions.
