There's an old ghost town on State Route 329 in between Stewart and Amesville. There used to be a very bustling community with train travel coming in and out and a variety of schools and shops and post offices. Broadwell Ohio is now a ghost town. However, people still live here. The neighborhood is made up of several families who are practicing a self-sufficient model of living, including stewardship of the land, small-scale farming, and vermiculture, among other principles and activities. Those families who still live in Broadwell are trying to restore their community system and the resilience of their community.

I tend to think it really is a partnership." Entering into the sixth year of their marriage, Preston Silvey and Alfreda Silvey are thankful for every day that having each other by the side. In 2011, Preston Silvey and Alfreda Silvey met on an online dating site. At that moment, Preston, a survivor of a malignant cancer called neuroblastoma, has never left the Athens City where whites ranged from 80 to 90 percent of the population while Alfreda was living halfway across the world, the Philippines. And fate brought them together in 2013. From then on, they support each other as a family to navigate the challenges in their life. The distance, Preston's disability, their financial difficulties, the stereotypes on cross-race marriage, and cultural differences, none of those can hinder them from loving. "We are thankful for what we have," Preston said.
