Tradition meets modernity in Pakistan's Bridal Fashion Week
Wedding season is in full swing and Pakistan's leading bridal fashion event is back in Lahore with its exotic treasure trove of bejewelled couture creations.
Among the designers showing off their collections, Ali Zeeshan presented bridal wear inspired by different Indian regions, with vibrant colour and traditional lace.
"The collection was inspired by my own roots in Pakistani culture, I have taken Rajasthan, Cholistan and desert areas, I have taken their colours and their embellishment, kept their Gota lace, and I developed couture outfits and jewelry and made my own pieces," said the designer.
Most of the Pakistani designers on show offered a fusion of contemporary and traditional bridal wear.
In her collection, Meena Sultan made reference to the Mughal Empire - the dominant power throughout the Indian subcontinent from the mid-16th to the early 18th century.
"It is a collection which is inspired by the intricacy and delicacy of the subcontinent, the Mughlai work and even before that, so it is like bringing your heritage back, forward and renewing it as a modern version," she said.
Nadia Hussain is a Pakistani television actress, host, model, entrepreneur and fashion designer. The 34-year old is considered one of Pakistan's top models:
"It always very difficult to actually wear bridal dresses because they are very, very heavy and the styling is very heavy, there is a lot of jewelry, everything as far as hair is concerned, there are lots of pins and a lot of volume, so doing a bridal show is extremely difficult, but you know it is always a good response," said the model.
