It’s an eccentric event, with foreigners in lederhosen, lots of children, fireworks, and even a drone show. In this video, we try Tsingtao out of a bag and break down the history of the city’s emblematic beer brand.

Every year, hundreds of people go to the mountains of this town in Yunnan to pick mushrooms and sell them on the international market. Yunnan province has 90% of all the mushroom species in China. We went to a wild mushroom town, foraged in the mountains, and talked to the locals about poisonous shrooms.

Think of construction, and you’ll probably imagine scaffolding made of steel or aluminum. But in Hong Kong, the material of choice is bamboo. The densely populated city is one of the last places on earth that still uses bamboo in construction, even when building skyscrapers. The organic material is said to be stronger and more flexible than steel. We spent a day up high with Hong Kong’s death-defying bamboo scaffolding workers and met one of the last bamboo theater artisans in town.
