The head of Pakistan's central bank, Raza Baqir, has decided to maintain the policy rate, or interest rate, at a high level of 13.25% for the next two months. The interest or policy rate refers to the rate at which the central bank lends to other banks and financial institutions. Due to the State Bank's decision to keep the interest rate at such a high level, foreign investment in the country has also reached its highest level in history over the past six months.
In 2008, bank customers in Pakistan suddenly discovered that service charges for withdrawing cash from ATM machines had significantly increased. This issue wasn't limited to just one or two banks; all banks across the country raised their ATM charges by the same amount.
