Colonial law killing women in Malawi
For 154 years now successive Malawi governments have stood by and watched while a British colonial law enacted in 1861 though meant to serve women’s lives then – is now sending more women to the grave than to the world. Abortion in Malawi is severely restricted under the country’s penal code. It is legally allowed only when a woman’s life is danger and only in the first trimester.
