The joint research project by NASA and DRL spent some time in Hamburg at the hangar of Lufthansa Technik, where the whole interior got an overhaul. SOFIA is a flying telescope that makes possible a better look what's outside the earth's atmosphere by flying at high altitude of up to 14 km while using the microscope that is housed in the aircrafts hull.
