Casey Trees: 2019 Canopy Award for Education

Short interview piece conceptualized, shot and edited for Washington, D.C. based nonprofit Casey Trees. This video project elevated the organization's annual awards program recognizing outstanding work partners and volunteers. All filming, including interviewing, was done on-location during a Casey Trees volunteer event. Challenges included securing permissions from school administrators, navigating uncontrolled lighting conditions outdoors, and honoring the interviewee's request to conduct their interview in American Sign Language. I was solely responsible for all shooting, interviewing, and editing.

Advocacy Works: Tree Canopy Protection Amendment Act

Documentary-style piece conceptualized, shot and edited for Washington, D.C. based nonprofit Casey Trees. This video project highlights the organization's role in developing and passing the city's Tree Canopy Protection Amendment Act (2016). Filming took place at City Council offices and Casey Trees offices. Challenges included scheduling and coordinating interviews with D.C. City Council members, navigating uncontrolled lighting situations, and tailoring interviews to each subject's involvement in the legislative process. I was responsible for shooting, interviewing, and editing. I also designed motion graphics elements for this piece using Adobe After Effects.

Know Your First Amendment Rights

Motion Graphics piece conceptualized and edited for Washington, D.C. based nonprofit Defending Rights and Dissent. This project met the organization's need for a short, "explainer"-style motion graphics piece focusing on First Amendment protections in the United States. Challenges included storyboarding an animated piece, designing simple but communicative motion graphics elements on a tight schedule, and ensuring the finished product reflected the organization's goals. I used Adobe After Effects to create this motion graphics piece.
