Request a demoI am an experienced photojournalist and video journalist who recently left a staff position with the St. Paul Pioneer Press in Minnesota to move to Durham, North Carolina and begin a freelance business. I excel at storytelling and have shot and edited about 150 two-minute video shorts for an online news website. I work quickly and collaboratively and can produce high quality video for a variety of clients and news organizations. I have a master's degree in photography from Ohio University and a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology from the University of Virgina. In addition, during my 27 years with the Pioneer Press and TwinCities.com I attended many professional workshops. I shoot video exclusively with Nikon DSLR's and professional audio gathering equipment. For editing, I use Adobe Premiere Pro. This is a story on a water birth at a new birth center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Delivering your baby in a birth center was a relatively new and upcoming trend and I proposed this story to my editors at TwinCities.com and the Saint Paul Pioneer Press. I was responsible for the entire story and did everything from beginning to end. One of my strengths is to gain the confidence of my subjects!
When the State of Minnesota proposed to allow the first ever wolf hunt, I propsed to my editor that I produce a three minute video short. The project was mine from start to finish- the idea, identifying sources, people to interview and even traveling to the north country to get pictures of wolves in the wild. This was produced for TwinCities.com the online version of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press.
I found this story, took all of the still photos, did the interview with a digital recorder instead of the video camera and put the piece together using Adobe Premiere Pro. I thought the still photos would be more powerful than video to illustrate this story. After finding the story, I pitched the story to my editors and it was published online and in the newspaper in a three part series.
