Request a demoI am a freelance multimedia journalist based in Cape Town, South Africa. I film and write for various media publications on African politics and stories of social justice. I also work with Code4SA (code4sa.org) a civic-tech company that uses data for social justice. One of my recent projects featured on one of South Africa's biggest media sites, News24. I filmed, edited and wrote stories surrounding the exploitation of domestic workers in South Africa. ( http://living-wage.news24.com/ ) The story led to a tool which allowed for employers to calculate whether they were financially extorting their employees - and it led to a national debate that sent waves across diverse media platforms and radio stations. I am fascinated with capturing marginalised stories that challenge the perception of Africa, and that create a platform for the voiceless.

I followed the stories of three domestic workers in the Western Cape, South Africa. The videos, text and graphs aim to encourage dialogue between domestic workers and employers, and to stress the validity and importance in seeing this significant part of our labour force as individuals with varying needs and personal aspirations. Challenging the minimum wage begins with giving it a human face.

This was a profile that I filmed and edited as part of a larger story documenting domestic worker's salaries in South Africa ( http://living-wage.news24.com/ ) Using Justine's story of surviving on a low income as a "cleaner" or domestic worker in South Africa, I aimed to highlight her struggles as a foreigner living in a largely competitive and xenophobic work environment.

As part of a larger multimedia story on domestic workers in South Africa - I wrote, filmed and edited for this recently launched, contentious and widely viewed journalism project that attempted to challenge the exploitative relationship between employers and domestic staff in South Africa (http://living-wage.news24.com/)
I filmed, edited and narrated this video for Eye Witness News (EWN) - one of South Africa's most reputable news agencies. It focuses on the different stories of those forcibly removed from gentrified areas, where they can no longer afford to live. They are taken to Blikkiesdorp (or Tin Can Town). The residents were told their time there would be temporary, but five years on they are still there.
