Request QuoteEMILIA MELLO (director/producer/photographer) is a Brazilian-American filmmaker raised between West Virginia and São Paulo. She graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a degree in Biology and in Latin American Studies. Her first foray into film brought her to black tarp camps of the MST, a communist agrarian reform movement in Brazil. She has since produced for Norwegian reality TV, commercials, and short documentaries as well as for the Oscar nominated documentary film, Wasteland. She is working on her first feature documentary about a peninsula in southeastern Rio state.

Rock Surfing is a sport local to Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, where competitors flip, slide, and jump down water slicked rock formations. Official competitions that attracted hundreds of people. Point systems comparable to snowboarding and surf competitions are used. Rock Surfing is incredibly dangerous; a bad fall can mean instant death. Despite the dangers, people continue to practice the sport.
