In October 2019, a judicial ruling on the Catalan independence process was announced, in which the political and social leaders of the 2017 Self-determination Referendum were sentenced to 100 years in prison. In an outburst of protest and revolt, people protested for a week in all kinds of demonstrations.
Chiapas is one of the richest natural resources regions in Mexico, a fact that encourages a strong exploitation of the territory by large foreign multinationals. The political oblivion towards the region and its people, historically oppressed by its indigenous identity, has made emerge precisely in Chiapas on of the great examples of transformation and social organization.
On June 1, 2011, a protest movement against the growth of Israeli settlements began in this northern Palestinian village from the West Bank occupied territory, which hinders the native population from cultivating their land due to the blockade of the main road that leads to the village. Today, protests continue weekly in the midst of a sharp repression by the Israeli Occupation Army.
