Fishermen have always been an integral part of northern Lake Michigan's story. For the men and women who still wake up before dawn each day to comb the waters of the lake, it’s a labor of necessity and of love. The area’s fishing industry has encountered dramatic highs and lows over the last century as overfishing and invasive species have at times put the industry’s future in question.
Flat water or swells, there are plenty of opportunities for board sports in Door County. Of the 300 miles of shoreline, 150 are roughly on the Lake Michigan side, which is where the larger waves can be found for freshwater surfing. On the Green Bay side, the calm waters are ideal for paddle boarding and exploring the clear water bays. Kiteboarding and windsurfing combine the power of the wind and water to take adventure offshore and to the air.
