The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank took on over 4 feet of flood water last Weekend. 500,000 lbs of food items have been lost; that's 415,000 "meals", based on USDA calculations, at a cost of millions. Their administrative offices have also been ruined - but the bigger concern is that right now they are unable to fulfill their mission of helping the community, which desperately needs them. Major Sheffield Ford served in the US Special Forces in Afghanistan. In June of 2006, he was in charge of 16 Americans and 46 Afghan Army soldiers during "Operation Kaika". Their mission: to capture or kill a Taliban commander. When the Taliban attacked, Ford lead his men through 17 hours of intense gun battle. The battle ultimately prevented an attack on Kandahar city.
