Natalie Hewit is an award-winning director and producer who has been making prime-time documentaries for major terrestrial and international broadcasters for over a decade. Her work has received widespread industry recognition and critical acclaim including an RTS Award and nominations for a BAFTA, a Royal Television Society Award and a Grierson Award. With human narratives at their core, her projects have taken her to numerous highly challenging locations. Her directorial debut saw her spend 3 months filming "Antarctica: Ice Station Rescue" at the Halley VI Research Station for the BBC, earning her a nomination for “Best Documentary” at the Broadcast Awards. Her most recent project, "Endurance" (W/T) marked her second visit to Antarctica, where she documented the expedition to find the wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship Endurance. In March 2023, Oscar-winning co-directors Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi joined Natalie on the team to bring "Endurance" to National Geographic Films.
I was Head of Media for the Endurance 22 Expedition - a role which included shooting and directing a feature documentary for international release, as well as overseeing an extensive social media campaign and global news media coverage for the expedition.
Documentary investigating why suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50 in the UK, and what can be done to prevent it - told from the personal perspective of Doctor and TV Presenter Xand Van Tulleken.
Observational documentary following the attempt by The British Antarctic Survey to achieve a world first when they move an Antarctic research station across the Brunt Ice Shelf. The film explores what it means to be part of a community at the end of the world and what life is like for the scientists and tradespeople who choose to swap the familiarity of home for a life less ordinary.
