The Interview | Original Theatre
Director Matt Hargraves and I made the most of the Academy Standard ratio for a recent theatre capture project. The style of the play and the theatre we filmed in really influenced our decision to use it. It also helped us focus the viewers attention on the characters as it was all about the dialogue with a very minimal set. In the grade, we went for black and white as it just worked so well for the look we were trying to create. We then used colour to indicate a shift in time. The play shifted between the past and present day. This was a full-length, live capture of The Interview. We shot it over 2 days with one camera, only having 4.5hrs per day. North South strives to create bespoke captures of stage work (theatre, dance, music) that translate for a screen audience, stepping away from the more traditional, end-on style captures that lack dynamic movement, craft and creativity.
