Singer, songwriter and composer Ash King, born Ashutosh Ganguly, is a well-known singer in the U.K. but these days he is found mostly in Mumbai, singing for Bollywood films. In this interview, Ash shares why he sings, how music fits into what he thinks life is and what his life’s story is.
Over 150,000 Tibetans live in India. Many of the older Tibetan residents fled Tibet along with the fourteenth Dalai Lama, after an unsuccessful uprising in 1959, whereas most of the young refugees have never even seen Tibet. Yet, more than anything else, they long to “return” to a free or truly autonomous Tibet.
Twenty-eight-year-old Azmat Khan was one of the Muslim dairy farmers who were accused of smuggling cows and then dragged, punched, kicked and hit with rods and sticks by a mob of cow vigilantes on a highway in Rajasthan’s Alwar district in April 2017. Azmat survived, but his associate, 55-year-old Pehlu Khan, died of his injuries in a hospital.
In a conversation in a living room in Delhi, Reema Ahmad and Rina D’Souza recount their abuse and their journey to recovery. They discuss how families ought to react to survivors, and how law-enforcement authorities could deal with abusers. Ahmad was sexually abused by her cousin when she was six years old. D’Souza was abused, also by a close relative, when she was seven.
