Senegal is known for its traditional gender norms, strict anti-abortion laws, and prevalence of female genital mutilation. This video series would tell the stories of women in Senegal who are breaking through these gender barriers in the tech, food, and health industries. I'm usually based in Argentina, but will be traveling to Senegal & Gambia Nov. 9-20 w/ the International Reporting Project.
When he was six, Gino Tubaro constructed his first robot. Today, the 20-year-old Argentinian inventor leads Limbs, an initiative through which he 3D-prints prosthetic hands for kids from low-income families. On Nov. 19, Limbs will be holding its second “Manotón” - an event during which inventors and volunteers will print free prosthetic hands for 20 kids and “transform them into superheroes."
Vaca Muerta is the world’s second largest shale oil and gas reserve. Its resources have attracted Chevron, Exxon, Shell and other foreign companies to Neuquén. But these lands are also home to 34 Mapuche communities who have been fighting to defend their land from the water, land, and air pollution caused by drilling, fracking, and mining. We hear their stories.
