I'm a young motivated journalist with a rich knowledge in Middle East foreign affairs. Passionate storyteller with a talent for delivering attention-grabbing, high-quality news reports and human stories. I want to tell more stories from the inside of Arab communities in the Middle East. My background and language skills open a lot of doors which stay closed for a lot of western journalists. I am fluent in Arabic, Dutch and English. I'm currently working for one of the leading Dutch quality papers called ‘de Volkskrant’. My job is to tell our Dutch readers/viewers about the current situation and the ongoing troubles in the Middle East, framed in a way that it fits the Dutch view. My stories have mainly been exclusive stories about the Syrian conflict, the refugee crisis, the marginalised and minority communities in the Middle East. One of my stories got nominated for 'de Tegel', the most important award for journalism in the Netherlands. This story on human trafficking networks in the Turkish city of Izmir was very important for me to work on. It showed the way traffickers work and gave us insight into the dark-side of these shady networks. I've also published an award-winning story on Syrian refugee child workers in Dutch daily quality newspaper 'de Volkskrant'. The footages I shot and produced were broadcasted by the BBC ten o’clock news. With experience in investigative (video) journalism, my online-media savviness and my passion of telling the stories of the marginalised voices, I am confident I will be an asset to your team and channel.

I was born in Athens, Greece, and after school I studied computer science and camera operating. From 2008 I have been working as a freelance videographer in Europe and across the Atlantic, as ENG/SNG crew member, but also on documentaries and theatrical/cultural/fashion events. I had the chance to focus on global issues such as the climate change but also to embrace and promote minorities rights. Always paying attention to the detail that makes the difference but never forgetting to see the whole picture. From February 2014, I am working with my personal company named ‘Soul Definition’, based now in The Hague. On my LinkedIn profile you can see references from professionals that I have worked with (https://www.linkedin.com/in/dimitrismeletis) and on my website you get a first-hand impression on my work in the past few years (http://dimitrismeletis.com/)

CERTIFIED FILMMAKER. I have a heterogeneous background: I worked as a teacher (4 yrs), corporate consultant/trainer/coach (14 yrs) and filmmaker. I consider myself a ‘Renaissance Soul’: curious, adventurous and talented in more than one area. I know how to capture a story perfectly because of this combination of skills and experience. I have a ‘Fingerspitzengefühl’ for knowing how to make people feel comfortable on camera and have a 'female gaze' for aesthetics (interesting stories can be beautiful too). I invested in the latest gear that makes 4K quality possible, while the same camera (Panasonic GH4) doesn’t feel too intruding in people’s personal space. I guarantee high quality audio too. I went to film school in The Netherlands. I do all the camera + sound + editing myself.

Alaye is a well experienced television director and video journalist for both national (VPRO, NTR) and local stations (AT5). But he also produces videos for online usage. His father a Nigerian bridge engineer and mathematician of royal descent, his mother a Dutch lawyer, he was born in Manchester UK. He was largely raised in The Netherlands where he lives at this moment in the capital Amsterdam. Due to his academic background with a master in History and Political science he has the ability as a video journalist to make in depth stories on a large variety of subjects. He focuses on economic, political and social subjects. In most cases the reports are character based using a lot of scenes and thereby avoiding ‘the talking head’. www.alaye.nl

I've filmed stories on Pakistani dancing girls, anti-Taliban militia, the division of Cyprus and the standoff between protesters and the Turkish government. If the story has depth and sheds a light on a country or issue that hasn't seen the spotlight yet I'm interested. My stories often revolve around a main character and feature an antagonist and other relevant characters.
