I became interested in documentary photography when I traveled to Sarajevo at the age of 14 in an Exchange Student program. Since then, I have worked for uncountable publications around the world, always maintaining my own photographic agenda. I based myself in Bangkok in 2010 and started covering Southeast Asia for several international media such as The New York Times, The Guardian, or The Wall Street Journal among others. However, I wasn't limited to Asia. I also covered Africa and the Middle East including some chapters on the Arab Spring. My work has been recognized with several awards, including the World Press Photo and The National Human Rights Prize. In 2012 I started shifting my carrier toward filmmaking. I studied for a master's degree in film direction from ESCAC Academy, which operates in association with Barcelona's University. In recent years, I have been making short, medium, and long-form documentaries for HBO, TV3, and Aljazeera English, among others. I now live between London and Barcelona and work as a filmmaker.

I'm Patricia Godoy and I was born in Sonora, Mexico, in 1982. I could became alawyer (I studied for this) but I decided to became journalist because I love to comunicate with the people and tell their stories. The experience I gained in various media in Mexico gave me strenght enough (in 2010) to move to Spain and work as correspondent and then as a freelance to differents media. It was not easy during this time: living and working in a new and unknown country with a lot of challenges ahead. But, at the same time, this great opportunity allowed me to build a broader global perspective of the job we do. As an international TV news correspondant, I had learn to face many challenges. I had learn to produce, film, edit my own stories. I like to tell small stories, that, one after another, are transforming this country/world and that somehow have transformed my life. I like to put light on the small details of everyday life that speak of the dignity and value of many extraordinary people.

An Art History and Linguistics mayor, I worked in the field of communication and arts management before starting an education as a photographer. I focused on photojournalism at the IEFC (Catalan Institute for Photographic Studies). In 2011, I took postgraduate studies on visual storytelling and multimedia production at the Danish School of Media and Journalism (Aarhus, Denmark), where I attended workshops by international photographers such as Antoine d’Agata or Mads Nissen. I am a journalist, camera operator and video editor with extensive experience working in the field, providing multi-platform audiovisual material for the BBC and other leading media organisations, including The New York Times, The Guardian and GlobalPost. While working for BBC as a videographer, I completed a MA in Documentary Film in the London College of Communication in 2011. My documentary ‘Indign@dos’, completed in 2011, was selected to be screened at the Short Documentary film festival in Berlin and the International Student Film Festival. In 2012 I won the BBC World Service’s ‘Creative Challenge’ in 2012, in which awarded a £20,000 bursary to complete the project entitled “Isolation”, about people living in extreme isolation in Antarctica, space and in prison. ‘Isolation’ was broadcasted in September 2013 in the BBC World Radio service.
