My name is Rosa Amanda Tuirán and I am a Mexican documentary filmmaker, photographer and investigative journalist based in the Bay Area. I received my Master of Journalism from UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism in May 2020. I worked as a News Video Fellow at BuzzFeed News and was a National Association of Hispanic Journalists Fellow at CBS News in 2019. In March 2020, I was part of the COVID-19 reporting project with the Investigative Reporting Program and The New York Times to help meet the need for comprehensive reporting on how the Covid-19 crisis affected California. After graduating, I worked on a PBS Frontline investigation, and have continued to pursue independent work about climate change and insecurity in Mexico. In November 2020, I published an investigation in The Counter about a meatpacking plant in Southern California that illustrates the national failure of OSHA to protect workers. Longreads recently included the piece in their best COVID-19 reporting of 2020. This year I worked as a series Producer for OceanX about the wonders of the ocean and those who explored it and I produced a Ford Foundation-funded podcast series about the murder of journalists in Mexico.

Meera Angelica Joshi is an international filmmaker who was born in New Zealand, raised in Australia and currently lives in New York, USA. Meera started making films in high school which gained recognition from teachers and peers. She followed her dream to New York University to pursue writing and directing. While at NYU she gained skills in producing, art direction and editing which helped inform her decisions as a director. She interned on films such as They Came Together and Chinese Puzzle as well as the Dr. Oz Show. Combining her interest in Himalayan art and film, she interned in the film programming department at the Rubin Museum of Art where she helped curate their documentary series, Lunch Matters. I am a documentary filmmaker, directing feature length documentary films. I have been working with social justice groups to create media to tell their stories for 12 years. Melina Tupa is an award-winning Argentinean and Brazilian journalist and documentary filmmaker, specializing in human rights and Latino issues across the world. She started her career as a print reporter for Billiken magazine and Diagonal Newspaper in Argentina but soon moved onto visual journalism. She worked for five years as an associate TV producer, three of those years at Turner Broadcasting System. There she wrote and produced short news formats that aired during commercial breaks, in-between shows and were shared on social media in nearly every Latin American country. Melina holds a Bachelor in Journalism degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina and a Master of Journalism degree from UC Berkeley, focusing on Documentary Filmmaking and Photojournalism. At the Berkeley J-School, Melina was awarded a TV/Documentary Merit Fellowship and the Carlos M. Castañeda Journalism Scholarship. Her documentary thesis The Search, told the story of Estela de Carlotto, the president of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, whose grandson was abducted during the Argentinean military dictatorship. The documentary is a Student Academy Award finalist, a recipient of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Excellence in Journalism Award for Student Special Project in addition to several other awards, and has been featured in different film festivals across the world. Manuel Ortiz is a social documentary photographer and journalist based in San Francisco, California. He was born in Mexico City where he had formal education in sociology, and visual arts, specializing in documentary film. He has traveled in over 20 countries for his photographic, and multimedia projects, most of them about immigration, and environment. I am from Milan, Italy, and I immigrated to the US in 2009. In Milan, I achieved my bachelor's in Advertising as a copywriter then won a grant to join one of the finest film companies at the time, Central Productions. After a few steps in commercials, I joined a Post facility (Rumblefish) where I worked as an AVID editor (commercials, documentaries, TV Shows, you name it) in the pioneering years of NLE, the mid-'90s. After three years immersed in Post, I began to freelance and merge my advertising studies with my tech skills. I evolved professionally as a writer, video, and convention director across Europe for Fortune 50, as well as filming documentary footage in Tibet. Relocating to the US was a major change in my life. I went through a long immigration process and health challenges. From the time I arrived in the US to the time I received a life-changing green card, I endured years of unemployment due to Visa restrictions, and battled cancer at the bone marrow while being a stay-at-home dad to my newborn daughter. Such experiences shaped my approach to work in new ways– I’ve learned the literal meaning of resilience, increased my empathy, and try to make days meaningful and joyful. In 2016, I wrote and directed my first US short film called Thank You Rebbe. In 2017, at the age of 44, I received my green card and returned to collaborating and volunteering with film projects. Soon, I was helping nonprofits meet their filmmaking needs, and in 2018, I accepted a full-time position as a video director at the Jewish United Fund of Chicago. The first project I wrote and produced was a video raising awareness about anti-Semitism in the US. In 2020, I received a Silver Telly Award and a Midwest EMMY nomination for this video. In 2021, my short film Thank You Rebbe won the Best Jewish Film Award at the Cannes World Film Festival - Remember The Future competition. My professional expertise includes developing creative strategy, managing creative and production teams, and developing content for Arts, Broadcast, Corporate, Entertainment, and Non-Profit initiatives. My passion for storytelling led me to wear multiple hats, from founding niche social networks to directing videos and conventions. My name is Michael, and I am a mid 30s photographer and World Wanderer. My photography journey started as a hobby, primarily learning my way around a DSLR by shooting landscapes around my home in San Francisco, California. Soon, I started accepting paid assignments, from commercial ad campaigns to weddings, but my passion for traveling with camera in hand was too great to ignore. I started visiting locations all over the globe, documenting not only the beautiful landscapes of the countries I visited, but also the lives of the local communities. I quickly fell in love with the travel and photojournalism genres of photography and was desperate to recreate that incredible rush. I have been lucky to lead workshops and document the lives of the people in Nicaragua, Peru, Jordan, Cambodia and India. I have also documented the work of elephant sanctuaries in Thailand, who aim to end the ugly and cruel business of elephant tourism.

David Martinez is a writer, filmmaker, teacher and political activist based in San Francisco. He recently completed "Autumn Sun" (2013), a documentary about Occupy Oakland, where he was filming from its inception. He has worked as a videographer in Indonesia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Darfur, and Iraq, where he filmed inside besieged Fallujah in 2004.
