In 2021, she became the first hijab-wearing Muslim woman to teach at Yale University as a Visiting Associate Professor at Yale Law School. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Science at Yale School of Environment, focusing on advanced machine learning for climate and conflict evacuations. She is also an Associate Professor at Barry University School of Law, teaching Environmental Law, Energy Law, Property, and Business Organizations. Her research on “climate cages” explores the intersection of climate policy and incarceration, highlighting how policy responses to the climate crisis exacerbate social and economic injustices. In 2023, Ahmad was part of a coalition awarded the United Nations Human Rights Prize for advocacy in the right to a healthy environment.
