Daniel Stephens studied filmmaking in the early 1990’s at Loyola University (New Orleans) and the University of South Florida. Subsequently he decided that the best place to apply his storytelling skills was the booming new Internet security industry that blossomed in the mid 1990’s. Eight years later Daniel realized his mistake: filmmakers should make films, not firewalls. In 2000, Daniel left the company he co-founded to return to filmmaking. In the intervening years, he has served as the Director of Photography and producer for numerous music videos, commercials, and short and feature films. He is particularly inspired by the verisimilitude of the unpredictable and feels these moments are the foundation of exceptional storytelling. Azza Cohen is a documentary filmmaker and historian currently based in New York City. She holds a master’s degree in colonial history from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University. Joe Hill is a journalist, photographer, and media producer. He is currently an Associate Producer for Vice News Tonight on HBO. Joe began his professional career as the founder and Executive Director of The Unexpected Laboratory, a creative production company that confronted current affairs with multimedia storytelling. Now called Round Room Image, his company focuses on international nonfiction media production. Over the last 18 years, I have worked in almost every field of film, TV and video production and television journalism, and have spent the last nine years managing my own news and media production company. I have an excellent knowledge of the industry, as well as a proven track record of running a company and managing staff, projects and budgets. I have lived and worked in many different countries, all over the world, producing anything from news and feature stories, to sport, to branded content and everything in between. Michael Eckels was born in Middlebury Vermont as the youngest of five children. His parents are both math teachers. He grew up heavily immersed in cross-country skiing, a sport he enjoys to this day. Michael received a B.A. in English from the University of Vermont, with additional intensive studies at London’s University of Westminster. After college he served as a Peace Corps volunteer English teacher in far eastern Russia outside of Vladivostok. From literature and languages he moved to news and documentary photography at The Moscow Times and Agence France-Presse. With the progression of digital video technology into still cameras, Michael began to expand his horizons into cinema. Born and raised in Nicosia, Cyprus George Lernis is a drummer and world percussionist. In addition to the drums George specializes in a number of world percussion instruments such as: the Darbuka, Bendir, Riq, Kudums, Daire, Davul, Cajon, Pandeiro, Congas just to name a few. George holds a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music in Jazz Performance and a master’s degree from Longy Conservatory in Modern American Music. I’m a Costa Rican investigative journalist with vast experience in cross-border collaborative projects with newsrooms in Latin America and the US. In 2021 she joined VICE Media Group as Director of Photography, working across a broad palette of globally renown content, including ‘Overlooked’, ‘I Was There’, ‘The Story Of’, ‘Street Food Icons’, ‘Munchies’, ‘Side Hustles’ and ‘Local Legends’. Holly also DOP’s independent narratives and feature documentaries. ‘Black As U R’ (2022, directed by Micheal Rice) received the highly prestigious ‘Panavision Award: Outstanding Feature’ and was named ‘Most Outstanding Documentary Feature’ at the 4th Micheaux Film Festival.
