To me, motion and graphic design was not just a hobby, but a great zeal, where I dedicated my time and effort going through this journey, so adopting it as my future profession was a decision I took without any hesitation. I kept motivating myself and seeking the professionalism that I'd gained through courses and special programs in addition to working with various specialized companies. It was where I ended up graduating with a bachelor's degree in Advertising and Public Relations. n 1984 Garip Ay was born in Siirt, Turkey. With his growing interest in pictorial arts since early childhood, he has first admitted to Diyarbakır Fine Arts Highschool followed by a major in Traditional Turkish Arts in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Throughout these years he started to focus on a concept which the art of Ebru is open for a change as the water it is made on. This concept was later regarded as a step towards connecting a traditional Turkish art evolved into a brand new form. Although his early work was consisting of portraits of Turkish names including Yunus Emre, Mimar Sinan, Piri Reis and more; he was recognized internationally with a remake of Starry Night by Van Gogh with a touch of Ebru. Followed by this success Garip Ay was invited to many galleries around the world with his work including workshops and seminars. He introduced the renovated form of Ebru with help of video art as a medium and defended the idea that the progress in Ebru was as crucial as the result and thrilling at the same time. Bearing these progressions in mind, a new form of Ebru blended with digital arts had a chance to reach people all around the world.

I'm an award-winning visual storyteller. I have over a decade of experience documenting stories of vulnerable populations, especially women and refugees from the Middle East and Africa. I am passionate about making sure global game-changers get their stories told. I was a staff photographer with the Associated Press for several years, during which time I documented the 2011 revolutions in Egypt and Libya. I am based in Istanbul, Turkey and work for the NY Times, the Washington Post, Buzzfeed, PepsiCo, the World Bank, UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee, Search for Common Ground, among others. For six years I co-founded and ran an innovative storytelling agency, Vignette. The company created multimedia projects for NGOs and foundations such as UNICEF, Amnesty International, Sesame Street, the Gates Foundation, the World Bank and the International Rescue Committee. In 2016 I received a World Press Photo award for her work in Sierra Leone with the NY Times, and I have received grants from the European Journalism Centre and IWMF to create stories about women's access to abortion worldwide.
