As a television journalist, videographer and editor trained in investigative and field reporting, I have successfully produced award-winning stories for decade for multi-platform local and national news outlets. I grew up in New Jersey, where I read the news into my parents camcorder as a kid, so it's not surprising I wound up immersed in video production. Early in my career, I learned to pursue my instincts, rather than follow the pack. I've investigated rail safety in the wake of deadly crashes and revealed crossing equipment failures at one of the nation's largest transit agencies, prompting reparative action by lawmakers and the agency, as well as a nod from the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences. During my role as a correspondent for NJTV, I uncovered hundreds of deceased voters names still on the rolls and casting ballots. I've learned that successful stories come when you can pull the personal human experience out of the data and documents. Recently I forged a partnership that enables me to rebuild dilapidated housing in burgeoning areas of my home state, allowing me to further another passionate mission - entrepreneurship, economic development and beautifying neighborhoods in my home state. Boris Shirman is a first-generation American, whose family came from the former Soviet Union. Boris graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Photojournalism. Currently, he is based in Brooklyn, N.Y. working as Director of Photography and Editor recently left his position as Director of Photography and Editor at Fly on the Wall Productions. Nicole Teeny is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Nicole started NYU film school having never seen an R rated movie and only 1.5 PG-13 films (she grew up a community that censored media). While in undergrad, for her first feature documentary, Nicole turned the camera on her own community for BIBLE QUIZ, a coming-of-age doc about the evangelical sport of Bible memory. BIBLE QUIZ won the Slamdance Grand Jury Award (and 9 other Grand Jury festival awards), played on Netflix, theatrically in seven cities at Alamo Drafthouse movie theaters, on Kanopy, on the Sundance Channel Global in 20+ countries, and was selected for the US State Department’s “American Film Showcase”. Hollywood Reporter called it "instantly lovable" and the LA Times said it was “Smart, funny, and disarming”. Nicole followed that beat and is in post-production on her second feature documentary, BULLETPROOF STOCKINGS, about the first all-female Hasidic rock band. It won the Doc-a-chusetts Pitch, LEF Moving Image grant and Cambridge art grants, and was a finalist at Fork Films and Chicken & Egg. Nicole also makes documentary shorts and series. THE WRITER exhibited at 2015 Viennale and over 50 international galleries and museums as a part of Harun’s Farocki’s “Labour in A Single Shot”. Her branded docu-series COMMUNAL FUTURES about collectives with The Collective featured a queer mosque, a makerspace, and an ecovillage. I'm an Australian journalist living in New York City, covering culture, identity and the environment.
