1 reviewJorge Sistos Moreno is a New York based film director, screenwriter and producer, born and raised in Morelia, México. He is proud alumni of the MFA in Film Production at New York University, Tisch School Of The Arts.
Jorge grew up in México, he graduated in Philosophy from Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. His thesis expands upon the concept of cinema from the positions of classic and contemporary authors, incorporating a practical concern in its attempts to clarify the conditions through which we create and interpret film.
Since he was a child he attended to the Morelia International Film Festival, where he took various screenwriting workshops with writer Alejandro Hosne and film appreciation workshops with the late communication theorist, critic and film expert Joaquín Rodríguez, who was a founder and program director of the Festival.
Jorge is currently in pre-production of the short film IN FREEDOM, a drama / thriller with a hitchcockian style about an immigrant family residing in New Jersey. The project won a Production Award from Spike Lee, the prestigious Black Family Production Award, finalist in the BlueCat screenwriting competition and finalist of the Cary Fukunaga Production Award.
Jorge is also co-writing a tv series with hints of fantasy and horror set in an ancient colonialist America with writer/director Cary Mason. And his first feature called “La Ausencia”, produced by New York production company S/B Films.
His work revolves around the mysticism of the Mexican province, the magical realism, the thriller and the horror genre. It has been screened in Cannes, Morelia, Curitiba, Mexico City, Cali, Canada, Tel Aviv and New York.
